The coast: what the sea changes

Salt does not attack aluminium the way it attacks steel, but it goes for the weak points: cuts, joints, fittings and anywhere moisture sits.

In Rafina, Nea Makri and Artemida we consider pre-anodising before coating from the outset — a pretreatment of the aluminium that improves corrosion protection — along with fittings suited to that environment.

Class 2 super-durable powders are a separate matter: they concern long-term colour and gloss retention under strong sunlight, not corrosion protection.

In holiday houses that stand empty for long periods one more criterion applies: sealing and drainage that work unattended.

Spata and the airport: acoustic comfort

The acoustic performance of a window does not depend on glass thickness alone. Noise passes just as easily through joints, gaps and inadequate perimeter sealing.

So we look at air-tightness, gaskets, system geometry and installation quality together. In demanding cases we use asymmetric or special laminated glazing build-ups, depending on the noise spectrum.

In housing stock from the 1980s and 1990s the critical question is what happens to the existing frame. Some systems fit over the old frame and limit the building work; in other cases full removal is the only correct answer.

That decision depends on the condition of the frame, the geometry, the clear opening and the sealing to be achieved. We take it on site, with a measurement — not from a photograph.

In apartment blocks we also consider the consistency of the facade, so that individual replacements do not create a problem later.
